OCR Examinations Board

OCR (RSA) Examination entry is available as follows:

  • As a course of study usually 20 hours for 
    2 examinations according to ability.  Available at KeyNet Training Centre or through Distance Learning.

  • For External Candidates who do not need a course of study (paying a Centre Fee in addition to the Examination Fee).

    We are presently taking bookings for examinations in August at Stage 2 (intermediate) and Stage 3 (Advanced) from the subjects detailed below.

OCR  Text Production and Word Processing (Basic) Qualification Course  (RSA I

This course of 20 hours study time is suitable for those who wish to pass OCR examinations in Word Processing and/or Text Production.  You will be supplied with an comprehensive training materials, (which also include exercises).  Sets of assessment papers will also be supplied for you to complete and return for marking by a fully qualified OCR marking co-ordinator.  Your marked work is returned to you with feedback and instructions as to how to proceed.  You can choose to learn at KeyNet Training Centre, attending at times to suit you and with a fully qualified tutor teaching you or you can choose to learn at home / through distance learning.  If you choose to learn at home we provide any additional help and support you might require through the telephone or email.

Pre-Requisites:  You should be able to type at about 25 words per minute and be a reasonably proficient user of a suitable word processing application such as Microsoft Word version 2000 or XP (or similar).  

Course Content: The course involves typing, word processing and printing a variety of business documents including, letters, reports
and memoranda.  It also includes learning abbreviations and presentation techniques,
inserting Headers and Footers, moving and copying text, emphasising text and changing the line length.

OCR  Text Production and Word Processing (Intermediate) Qualification Course  (RSA II

This course of 20 hours study time is suitable for those who wish to pass the OCR / RSA examinations at Stage II in Word Processing and Text Production.  This level is now called Intermediate. Once enrolled on the course we will supply you with comprehensive training materials and instructions as to how to proceed.  Sets of assessment papers will also be supplied for you to complete and return for marking by a fully qualified OCR marking co-ordinator.  Your marked work is returned to you with feedback and instructions as to how to proceed.  You can choose to learn at KeyNet Training Centre, attending at times to suit you and with a fully qualified tutor teaching you or you can choose to learn at home / through distance learning.  If you choose to learn at home we provide any additional help and support you might require through the telephone or email.  

Pre-Requisites:  You should be able to type at 30 words per minute or more and be a proficient user of Microsoft Word version 2000 or XP
(or similar).  For the distance learning option a recent pass at RSA Stage I is desirable but not essential.

Course Content:  The aim of the course is to assess your ability to produce a variety of routine and specialist business documents from handwritten and typewritten drafts, and recalled text.  These will include:  letters, reports, articles, notices for display, tables,
chronological lists of alphabetical and numerical information, memorandums, standard documents using recalled text from phrase files.

The course also includes learning abbreviations and presentation techniques, changing the line length, making corrections, inserting Headers and Footers, moving and copying text, emphasising text, creating tables and sorting within tables, inserting standard phrases.

The overall aim of the award is to meet the business document production requirements of the discerning employer and to give you the opportunity to demonstrate competence to the level demanded for NVQ Administration Level 2 / OCR Intermediate Text Production.

OCR  Text Production and Word Processing (Advanced) Qualification Course  (RSA III

This course of 20 hours study time is suitable for those who wish to pass the OCR / RSA examinations at Stage III in Word Processing and Text Production.  This level is now called Advanced. Once enrolled on the course we will supply you with comprehensive training materials and instructions as to how to proceed.  Sets of assessment papers will also be supplied for you to complete and return for marking by a fully qualified OCR marking co-ordinator.  Your marked work is returned to you with feedback and instructions as to how to proceed.  You can choose to learn at KeyNet Training Centre, attending at times to suit you and with a fully qualified tutor teaching you or you can choose to learn at home / through distance learning.  If you choose to learn at home we provide any additional help and support you might require through the telephone or email.  

Pre-Requisites:  For this course the pre-requisites are necessary.  A good level of English is essential and you must have recently passed OCR Stage II Word Processing and Text Processing examinations.  You should also be able to type at 40 to 50 words per minute and be a proficient user of Microsoft Word version 2000 (or similar), including tables.

Course Content:  The aim of the course is to assess your ability to produce a variety of complex and specialist business documents involving technical terminology from handwritten and typewritten drafts, and recalled text.  These will include multi-page letters, multi-page reports, two-column articles, notices for display, landscaped tables and memorandums.

You will also be required to display work to conform to directions given concerning style of presentation: line spacing (i.e. single/double); emphasis (e.g. emboldening, underlining, capital, etc); insetting from the left-hand margin and centering over the typing line.  Also:

Inserting Footnotes.  Correcting unmarked spelling errors, errors of punctuation (including apostrophes) and errors of agreement.  Copying part of a previously stored document to a specified location within a separate document.  Paginating documents as instructed.  Changing Fonts and/or Typeface.  Creating tables with differing numbers of columns from information in a data sheet.  Presenting information as shown in draft, or as instructed.  Producing extra copies and indicating routing as instructed. 

The overall aim of the award is to meet the business document production requirements of the discerning employer and to give you the opportunity to demonstrate competence to the level demanded for OCR Advanced Text Production.
